SA Junior Surfing team arrives safely but surfboards get to Portugal for the ISA World Junior Championships two days late
The 2007 SA Junior Surfing team arrived safely in Lisbon Portugal Tuesday only to find that their surfboards had been left behind in Johannesburg. The surfboards eventually reached Costa da Caparica, the site of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships, early Thursday morning. The Lotto SANZ Junior International which was scheduled to take place on May 3 was postponed to today (Friday May 4) to give the South Africans a chance to practice in the small 1-2 foot Muizenberg type conditions before taking on the Kiwis. The ISA World Junior Championships gets under way with the Parade of Nations and Sands of the World Ceremony tomorrow (Saturday May 6) at about midday and the contest begins on Sunday and ends the following Sunday (May 13). The Parade of Nations during which the South Africans will march in their blazers and ties, and the traditional Sands of the World Ceremony during which every nation will deposit sand from their beaches into a special container, can be watched live via webcast by going to quiksilver.com, select events link and click ISA World Juniors 07, or www.isasurf.org and follow the prompts to get to the live webcast. Information and live images and scores will be available from these sites from Day One until the end of the Awards Ceremony on Sunday May 13. Email messages can be sent to the site and these messages will be read out by the web commentators throughout the week. Surfing South Africa will publish daily Press releases which will be posted with photos of the SA Team members along with each day’s results on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za 2007 QUIKSILVER ISA WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS COSTA DA CAPARICA, PORTUGAL MAY 5 (PARADE of NATIONS) EVENT RUNS FROM MAY 6 - 13
