Winter is still in full swing, so we are looking forward to some Spring events.  Read the latest news from Dirtopia HQ:

MTB Skills Clinic 19 Aug /  9 Sept for beginners

“End of Winter” Trail Run 26 August Delvera


Beautiful routes with jeeptrack through the vineyards, views of Table Mountain & the winelands, singletrack sections – choose from 7km or 14.5km routes.

A late start at 09h30, Café Pronto to warm you up, a medal at the finish (for the first time!), good refreshment station and fun luckydraw afterwards.  Results will be posted on the website again.

Pre-entries close on 22 August, so get yours in to get that goodybag and discount!  Note that offlines are cheaper.

Staalwater MTB Challenge 8 September - entries open

This event has become a popular Spring event in the beautiful Overberg with its Canola fields scenery.  The Caledon Casino, Hotel & Spa gives great facilities and for the first time this year, medals will be handed to all finishers as well.  All participants will get a 50% off vouher to visit the Mineral baths.

Route managers will confirm some fun changes in the routes (singletrack!) soon, so keep watching the website and the Dirtopia Facebook pages.

Choose from: 15km, 30km or 60km.  Something for all abilities.

Working with the local charity group, RoundTable that does support on the routes, the event also raises money for the crèche of 140 children.

Riders can also look forward to good refreshment stations, entertainment at the finish and of course lots of stuff to be won at prizegiving incl a Giant Snap Bike at the luckydraw!

Spur Lourensford Classic 30 September – entries open

The Cape’s only true Classic brings the entire family a day out in Somerset West with title sponsor Spur Steak Ranches providing further value with yummy catering & kids entertainment.

Kids under 12 can choose from 500m, 1.5 & 3km flat routes on the fields (and goodies from Spur), while novices and the not so fit riders can enjoy the easier two routes of 15km or 27km.

For the more experienced & fitter riders, the 38km & 57km routes will take you into the spectacular mountains with great views and an adventure on your bike.

Trail Centre news

A reminder that the marked hiking & mountain bike trails (& bike hire!) on Delvera farm near Stellenbosch is open 7 days a week from 08h00 to 17h00.  Come check out the winter deals of Hi-Tec clothing, Falke socks, event clothing and browse the shop for
books, magazines, maps, Camelbak and bike accessories.

Help raise awareness of the plight of rhino poaching in South Africa.  This year alone over 300 rhino’s have already been poached. On this MTB race, you will also pass along remaining patches of endangered Renosterveld, an extinct habitat. (only 4% left). On route you will experience some of the best riding terrain, from rough back roads, single track and into koppies and mountains. The area boasts flowers with the West Coast already in bloom, animals and a beauty that is unsurpassed. - Amarider facilitates Table Mountain MTB forum

A public meeting to update riders on progress with the establishment of a forum to negotiate with Sanparks regarding the use of mountain bikes within the Table Mountain National Park is taking place at Chrysalis Academy in Tokai on the 22 August at 6pm. Please RSVP to reception@cndv.co.za to receive a draft copy of the constitution.


- Spur Schools MTB League WC #4

Last event taking place at Paul Roos Gymnasium on 1 September, before schools are chosen to go to the Final in Magaliesburg during weekend of 22-23 September.  ALL school kids welcome!
