The streets of Johannesburg and Stellenbosch came alive with excitement on Thursday, 09 August 2012 when over 11 700 runners and walkers (6800 in Johannesburg and 4900 in Stellenbosch) showed solidarity in celebration of National Womans Day by taking part in the Totalsports Ladies Races held annually at Rooseveldt High School, Emmerentia and Coetzenburg Stadium, Stellenbosch.

Lebo Phalula proved to be unstoppable in Johannesburg completing the 10km route in an impressive time of 35mins45secs, securing herself the top spot on the podium.  According to Phalula the Totalsports Ladies Race is her favourite race.  This is the second time that I took part in the Totalsports Ladies Race.  I competed for the first time in 2011 and also managed to win.  This is such a nice race.  Its great to be able to race only against ladies.  Ill definitely be back next year, hopefully for my third victory, says Phalula.  Noeleen Conrad came in 2nd, while Cornelia Joubert finished 3rd.

Bulelwa Simae (running for Nedbank) was the Stellenbosch runner to beat.  According to Simae the Totalsports Ladies Race was fantastic.  The route was nice and flat and the weather was just perfect with no rain.  I knew that with these conditions I had a chance.  Its actually challenging competing only against ladies.  Usually the women hide behind the men, but I was ok with the challenge and really enjoyed chasing them down.  Although the race was tough, I am really happy with my performance today.  Ill definitely be back next year, says Simae, who completed the 10km route in an impressive time of 36minutes25seconds.  Thozama April came in 2nd, while Nicole Marais finished 3rd.

Idols runner up Lloyd Cele and Female pop sensation, Shelley Gordon had the crowds on their feet in Johannesburg and Stellenbosch respectively, serenading ladies once theyd crossed the finish line.

Runners/walkers could choose between a fun 5km run/walk and a 10km run/walk.
