Charles Keey will be aiming for a successful title defence when he returns to Elgin Grabouw on Sunday, 19 August 2012 to take on the Oude Molen Distillery Mountain Bike Challenge.
Celebrating its third anniversary and taking place at the Oude Molen Distillery, South Africas Premier Brandy Destination, riders can choose between a 60km, 35km and 10km route.
According to Keey, it was by luck that he was able to take part at the 2011 event. By chance a friend of mine who had entered couldn't make the race, so I was lucky to do a substitution and receive his entry. As always Stillwater Sport coordinated a great event, irrespective of the winter weather experienced on the day. It is always good for the sport when new races come onto the calendar as it raises the standard of events in the Western Cape. The Oude Molen Distillery MTB Challenge is unique in that riders finish inside the distillery, this could get quite exciting if it came down to a sprint finish, says Keey. The people at the Oude Molen Distillery were very generous with their prizes last year. I particularly loved the idea of bottling my own reserve Brandy, it was really special. I really hope to successfully defend my title this year.
Before crossing the finish line mountain bikers will get the unique opportunity to ride through the Distillery where French oak barrels containing Oude Molens finest are housed.
