Top South African road and track athlete, Rene Kalmer will attempt to defend her title at the much loved Totalsports Ladies Race on Sunday, 22 July 2012 at the Kings Park Athletic Stadium (Durban) just ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.

According to Kalmer it is a great initiative to host a running event in celebration of women.  “Women are the back bone of any family and it is great to recognize and reward women for the important role that they are playing in society.  The Totalsports Ladies Race is a very well organized race, the support is amazing and on the day it's all about the ladies.  It is good for your body and mind to be fit and active.  What better way to celebrate women's month than with fellow ladies outdoors in a beautiful Durban,” says Kalmer.

“I'm very excited to be part of the 2012 Olympic Games,” continues Kalmer.  “This will be my second time at the Olympics as I participated in the 1500m in 2008 in Beijing.  I'm taking part in the marathon on Sunday, 05 August.  It is a great honour to represent South Africa at such a prestigious event”.
