Although a newcomer to the sport, Stuart Marais has already managed to cause waves amongst the XTERRA community with his second place finish behind XTERRA legend Conrad Stoltz at the Totalsports XTERRA South Africa Championships earlier this year.  Marais will be back in action on Thursday, 12 July 2012 when he takes on the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Knysna presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT, the only XTERRA SA event that does not feature a water discipline, but instead follows a run/mountain bike/run format.

“I am excited to take part at XTERRA Knysna,” says Marais.  “I hear the route can be really challenging especially when wet, while the run is apparently really fast.  This version of the XTERRA gives the duathletes a better chance to race as most people fear the swim.  So XTERRA Knysna suits the weekend warrior too.  I am better known for my running and cycling abilities.  I am however working hard in the water, so I see myself as a triathlete rather than a duathlete.  XTERRA is a combination of all the sports I love.  In addition it also adds the family dynamic, as off road triathlons are safer for children, giving everyone the chance to enjoy our incredibly beautiful country while having fun or racing”.

After the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Knysna presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT, Stuart Marais will head to Europe to race XTERRA Czech and XTERRA Germany.

Forming part of the much loved Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, XTERRA Full athletes will need to tackle a 3km trail run, 23km mountain bike and 7km trail run, while XTERRA Lite athletes will be faced with the same challenge, but just over a shorter distance of 3km trail run, 12.5km mountain bike and a 3km trail run.  All three legs of the XTERRA Full and XTERRA Lite will take place in and around the spectacular PEZULA Private Estate.

EVENT INFO:
Date:               Thursday, 12 July 2012

Venue:             PEZULA Private Estate, Field of Dreams (Knysna)

Start:               XTERRA Lite ~ 10h00

All entrants can look forward to stocking up on energy at the much loved Bokomo Breakfast Zone which will open at 07h00 the morning of the XTERRA at PEZULA Field of Dreams.  Once the action of the race is over, competitors can look forward to regaining their strength in the much loved REHIDRAT® SPORT Recovery Zone.
