Chad Le Clos Doubles Again in 100 butterfly and 400 IM

MONTE CARLO, Monaco, June 10:  The 2012 Mare Nostrum wrapped up today with the last finals session in Monaco. South Africa's Chad Le Clos took home his fourth gold of the weekend!

South Africa's Chad Le Clos picked up his third and fourth wins of the meet with solid outings in the men's 100 fly (52.43) and 400 IM (4:21.39). Yesterday, Le Clos won the 200 IM and 200 butterfly.

Chad's parents booked their tickets for the Olympics in London months in advance, not knowing whether their son would qualify for the tournament.

He will go into the meeting as the highest ranked swimmer in three of the five disciplines.

The short-course world champion in the 200m butterfly will be the leading swimmer in the field in his specialist events, the 200m and 400m individual medley races.  He is also ranked second in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle.

He did not only qualify for the London games, he qualified in every one of the events he participated in and will be racing in six events, which is an SA record for the Olympics.

Le Clos will swim individual medleys, the 400m and 200m, and both the 100m and 200m butterfly races.

His 14-year-old brother, Jordan le Clos, knows very well that if his brother is to win a medal at the Olympics, he will need all the support he can get.

“I try to support my brother in every way possible, even if it means me not making any noise when he is sleeping,” said Jordan.

Meanwhile, Le Clos said that preparations for the Olympics had been going well and that he was “excited” to make his debut at the London games, which kick off in less than 3 months.

“Preparations are going according to plan. I’ve pretty much been training all my life, not only specifically for London, but also for the 2016 games,” he said.

“I have been very blessed.”
