URBAN RUN ENTRIES OPEN

2011 Start...

Entries for The Herald Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run open tomorrow (Friday 1st June) ahead of the race on Sunday 16th September.

Hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), the 2012 Urban Run will consist of a fun 10.5km urban obstacle run through the Port Elizabeth CBD.
"The Urban Run is an exciting obstacle race which draws people back to the CBD to witness the wonderful urban renewal which the MBDA has undertaken." says race organiser Mike Zoetmulder of Zports. "Participants can expect more fun obstacles along the 10.5km course this year but are warned that entries have been limited."

The 2012 Urban Run route will take participants through the heart of the CBD where they can expect to be delayed by tyres, drain pipes, stairs, cars, containers and other urban obstacles as they get dirty tackling the city for charity. Working closely with the Scouts of Nelson Mandela Bay, the Urban Run promises to offer a wonderful spectacle for the city as some of the most amazing obstacles are  conceived and constructed by our local Scouts.

The Urban Run is a unique running event which is structured to appeal to the philanthropist in each of us and following the success of last year’s event which raised over R40,000 for local charity, it is hoped that this year’s event will raise over R100,000 for this year’s nominated charities. The local branch of the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC) will be the primary benefactor of the 2012 Urban Run with the Coega Door of Hope Children’s Home and the Nelson Mandela Bay Scouts also being included this year.

“CHOC are very excited about being involved in this interesting and challenging event as it not only highlights the historic sights of Port Elizabeth but also creates the much needed awareness and funding so desperately needed in Port Elizabeth. We are in the process of opening an oncology ward at the Dora Nginza Hospital and needing as much support from individuals and companies as possible. The Urban Run will go a far way in realising this project for the children, “ added Charmaine Vosloo, Branch Manager for CHOC in Port Elizabeth.

Early Bird entries at just R100 will be available on www.urbanrun.co.za from Friday (1st June) whilst manual entry forms are available from all leading Sports shops. With just 1,200 slots available for this year don't delay in getting your entry in and securing your place in the MBDA’s The Herald Urban Run for 2012. Registration packs are to be collected during the Fitness and Lifestyle Expo on the Donkin Reserve on Saturday 15th.
