New triathlon event set to woo the West Coast
The inaugural Garmin West Coast Warm Water Weekend, a triathlon and multi-sport and adventure weekend set in the heart of the picturesque West Coast National Park in Langebaan, will take place from 26 to 28 March 2010. “We’re very pleased to announce the new Garmin West Coast Warm Water Weekend. It’s aimed at outdoor-loving families who would like to escape the trappings of urban life for a few days. There are some spectacular experiences to be had, such as mountain biking though a nature reserve on routes normally inaccessible to the public,” commented Paul Ingpen, event director. The triathlon will take place on Saturday, 27 March, consisting of a 2km lagoon swim, a 60km road time trial and a 12km trail run. “Participants can look forward to traffic-free roads, with the West Coast ocean on one side and the Langebaan lagoon on the other.” South African and World XTERRA Triathlon champions, Dan Hugo and Conrad Stoltz, have confirmed their participation in this event. There will also be a kids race on Saturday to keep the young ones occupied while the adults battle it out on the triathlon course. Sunday will be a family-focused day, with a 24km mountain bike route and 10km paddle, a 10km trail run and a guided hike through the magnificent nature reserve. Additional activities on offer include guided hiking, bird watching and history tours, game drives and family bike rides. The West Coast Warm Water Weekend is sanctioned by the Western Province Triathlon Association and is by invitation only. The triathlon is limited to 120 people, so e-mail admin@electricink.co.za by no later than 15 March and tell us why you consider yourself an eco-friendly athlete.
