The Northern Challenge 3 Day Trail Run Stage Race

The race venue is absolutely gorgeous with the most tranquil atmosphere and camping space under lovely old trees next to a crystal clear stream. We strongly recommend that participants consider taking the camping option, pack their tents and join us (with the whole family) for a super special weekend of running, relaxing and socializing in a truly beautiful setting... at one with nature.

What: 3 Day Multi Stage Trail Race & Single Day event
Stage 1:  Friday 11 April. 10km night prologue – 18:30 start
Stage 2: Saturday 12 April. 25km challenging route - 7:30am start
Stage 3: Sunday 13 April. 20km challenging route – 7:30am start
Single Day 7km run (13 April): Fun, scenic and social run - 8:30am start
Single Day 20km run (13 April): Fun and adventurous. Same route as 20km stage 3. – 8:00 am start.
Costs
3 Day Run (incl meals, no accommodation): R1 900 Incl Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, Sunday prize-giving braai + T-shirt
3 Day Run (excl meals, no accommodation) R1650 Including T-shirt (no meals)
Single Day Fun run (5 - 7km): R 80
Single Day Trail Run ( 20km): R120
Extra meals (for family and friends) R360 (4 meals)
Camping: R100 per person adult per night. R50 for kids under 16 (to be booked directly with the venue)

Food
Lunch and dinner will only be served to those that chose the meal inclusive package. Breakfasts are the runners own responsibility. There is a basic kitchen with a gas stove at the camping area.Extra dinners and prize giving lunches (for family and friends) can be booked and paid for with your online entry - R90 per meal

 
Accommodation
Camping:
Camping spots are available at the race venue at R100 per adult per night and R50 for kids under 16. Camping to be booked at the venue directly and you have to supply your own tent and gear. There is a very basic kitchen area with gas stoves.

Clean ablution facilities with hot water.

No electricity.

Other accommodation:
There are also numerous guest houses and lodges in the area for those that don't want to camp with us.

 

The Race
The race will consist of 3 different trail routes for each of the 3 stages held over 3 days.The full distance will be run on single track and jeep track

Each stage will start and finish at the Frog Trail Camping Site

The main event field will be limited to 100 athletes taking part in the 3 day event.

The single day event staged on the Sunday (Stage 3) will be limited to 400 athletes.

The Stage race athletes will be given a 20 minute head start on day 3.

Comprehensive EMS will be present at the event with emergency and evacuation plans in place



 
Water /Nutrition points
There will be aid stations placed at strategic points along the route each day.Sufficient water, nutrition and electrolyte products will be catered at these points. There will be compulsory water points for all athletes taking part in the multi day race.

Remember ultimately it is the athletes own responsibility

 
Start Finish Area
A full medical team will be present at the start of each day to ensure every athlete is fit enough to take part. They will also be there throughout the day to take care of any medical issues and emergencies.Safety and route briefings will be held before the start of each stage

We will create an awesome party vibe and atmosphere at the venue with a picnic zone and beer tent. All meals will be served at the camping area at the lapa under the shady trees next to the river.

Each athlete will receive a high quality nutritional sports drink as they cross the finish line as well as a meal.

The rules (stage race)
All competitors of the stage race must be 18 years and olderThis is an individual event

No seconding is permitted

No littering will be tolerated. Anyone caught littering will be disqualified.

The desicions of the race director is final.

Any race related appeal must be done within 30 minutes after the finish.

A full compulsory gear list will be sent to all participants. Make sure you have all the gear even if we dont need it on actuall race day.
