The Funky Fynbos Festival MTB Race is one of those true mountain bike rides.  The routes traverse fynbos conservancies and farms with magnificant views over the mountains to the sea.  The climbs are tough and the descents along jeep tracks and purpose built single tracks full of exhilaration and fun.  Along the route there will be something for all to enjoy, whether you like technical riding and fast, fun downhills, or stunning views while riding in pristine fynbos with its fantastic flora and bird life.

Add to this the farm experience and hospitality, family activities and the Funky Fynbos Festival including some exciting new venue activities, a truly wonderful weekend getaway!

70km Marathon
This is a new ride and a worthy challenge for the very fit, experienced and technically proficient rider, not for the feint hearted. The route is characterised by steep uphills, switchbacks and fast technical descents, with jumps, single track and fantastic views.

Local riders experience parts of this ride as the most difficult mountian bike in Gansbaai and the route
has been extended for the marathon race.

Expect to finish tired and exhilarated!

46km Monster
The 46km ride is a toughie and requires a strong, experienced rider to negotiate the steep uphills and single track. You will be riding through private land on a route that is not normally available to the public. The route profile is the same in the beginning as the 70km marathon, but allows you to avoid the sting in the tail.

There are very few flat sections to rest on, it is an all mountain ride!   This is a beautiful ride with a true fynbos flavour.

33km Fynbos Rush
This is a new route for 2016, elevation of 1200m.   It is longer than the 30km suggests as some of the climbs are long and steep. As you leave Flower Valley you have a flattish section to warm up and enjoy the ride over the dam wall.  When you reach Farm 215 you climb 3km up to the reservoir where you can enjoy amazing views, before you meander down some undulating jeep tracks to the gravel road, some of these downhills can be quite fast.  You then have 7km of rest before you start the next climb through the Lomond Wine Estate Vineyards and Flower Valley before you have a fast downhill run to the finish

20km fun ride

12km family ride

We are super excited about our third trail run as part of the Funky Fynbos Festival. Last year’s event was a great success and we are very proud to have the continued support of sponsor Cape Mohair and Rockets. The weekend offers the opportunity to celebrate our unique floral heritage with a fynbos display, fynbos talks, fynbos harvesting and demonstrations. There will be local craft stalls and local food merchants – this is a country fair and the crafts will be authentic and from the area.
