Qualify for the main event by taming the lion on Strava
The third installment of the revolutionary concept race developed by Ryan Sandes will take place at Lion's Head in Cape Town on Saturday 15th November.
This year qualification will take a different format, with runners setting their time for the traditional qualifying route (around the base of the mountain) on Strava. The top ranking men and women will qualify to race the sprint elimination format for the title of Red Bull LionHeart.
(there is no entry fee)
There's Trail Running.
Then There's Red Bull LionHeart.
South Africa’s favourite trail-running export, Ryan Sandes, created Red Bull LionHeart back in 2012. He wanted to showcase what fine trails his backyard has to offer, and formalise (without compromising its core roots, of course) #TamingTheLion, the underground time-trial from the guard hut at the bottom of Cape Town’s iconic Lion’s Head, to the top.
AJ Calitz is two-time defending champion. He reclaimed the title in 2013 by smashing his previous record with a time of 26:46 minutes (up and down) the 3,7km route. While Landie Greyling owned the women's race.
This year, for the third installment of this unique trail challenge, there will be a 6 week qualifying window during which runners will be logging their times via Strava (for the route around the base).
How to Qualify
The top 10 men and top 5 ladies from 2013 have earned themselves a spot in the final. The rest will have to set their pace on Strava to qualify. The following rankings will get you a spot in either the elite or intermediate final.
Event takes place on Sat 15th November.
Entries close 10 November 2014.
