A great and well prepared new route, with a good mixture of riding conditions set in the foot hills of the Langeberg mountains overlooking the ruens fields. The 55 km route has been laid out for the fit and experienced rider to keep you challenged on the climbs and great descents. The down-hills are a mix of fast rolling hills with a few technical descents that are clearly marked and well worth the effort of the climb, all in all a route with variation and flow to remind you why we love mountain biking so much. Ride amongst deep-set pine forests and beautiful fynbos with 60% jeep track, 20% gravel and 20% single track and 800 meters of vertical climbing. The 23 km is for the beginner and not-so-fit rider and riding through farm lands and into the beautiful Bontebok National Park where a variety of game can be seen while riding through fynbos on good gravel roads, looping back to the finish in time to watch the longer route riders come in.10 km is for the kiddies.

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE
From Cape Town, take the N2 towards Caledon. At Swellendam, turn left at the second turn-off and follow the signboards to the Powell Sports Grounds (Local Rugby club). Parking and Entries will be at the premises of the Powell Sports Grounds. Start point is opposite Oppi Stoep Coffee Shop, corner Berg and Voortrek streets. G PS Coordinates: 34° 1’5.03?S ; 20°27’6.97?E.
NOTES
This funride forms part of the Swellendam Canola Carnival. There is also a 35 km Extreme MTB event on Thursday 9 August and a time trail on Friday 10 August. Contact the organisers for further information in this regard.
Remember to bring and wear your PPA MTB funride number. No helmet, no ride. No transponder, no time – PPA pays for its members to be electronically timed by Racetec.
