[ 101km Klein Karoo Eco Walk ]

The beautiful Klein Karoo village of Prince Albert is the start of our walk.  We arrive in time for a light lunch at the La-di-Da Restaurant.

  • Spend the afternoon with a botanist, Prof Sue Milton-Dean, to discover the hidden treasures of the Karoo veldt.  We work up an appetite by doing a Ghost Walk through the streets of Prince Albert with one of the local teachers / historians.

  • We walk to ‘The Top’ , then drive downhill along the challenging, but breathtaking Swartberg Pass toesume our walking at the bottom of the pass towards Kruisriver Farm with its beautifully restored buildings.

  • Dwell in the spectacular red / orange sandstone beauty of the Red Hills, which were formed 60 million years ago.

  • Ostrich palace - during the ostrich feather boom, huge houses were built by wealthy ostrich farmers and they became known as ostrich palaces. A few well-known ones can be visited.

  • We leave for Calitzdorp via the beautiful valley of Groenfontein. We sample port and wines at one of the Cellars in the ‘Port Capital’ of the Klein Karoo.

  • Attending an organ recital by the legendary Father Noel, in the Afrikaans Church, is a highlight of the day.

  • We walk through magnificent Seweweekspoort  and  explore the hidden Bosch Luys Kloof. Our walk ends on a mountain farm near Montagu with blooming apricot, peach and pear orchards.
