The beautiful Klein Karoo village of Prince Albert is the start of our walk. We arrive in time for a light lunch at the La-di-Da Restaurant.
Spend the afternoon with a botanist, Prof Sue Milton-Dean, to discover the hidden treasures of the Karoo veldt. We work up an appetite by doing a Ghost Walk through the streets of Prince Albert with one of the local teachers / historians.
We walk to ‘The Top’ , then drive downhill along the challenging, but breathtaking Swartberg Pass toesume our walking at the bottom of the pass towards Kruisriver Farm with its beautifully restored buildings.
Dwell in the spectacular red / orange sandstone beauty of the Red Hills, which were formed 60 million years ago.
Ostrich palace - during the ostrich feather boom, huge houses were built by wealthy ostrich farmers and they became known as ostrich palaces. A few well-known ones can be visited.
We leave for Calitzdorp via the beautiful valley of Groenfontein. We sample port and wines at one of the Cellars in the ‘Port Capital’ of the Klein Karoo.
Attending an organ recital by the legendary Father Noel, in the Afrikaans Church, is a highlight of the day.
We walk through magnificent Seweweekspoort and explore the hidden Bosch Luys Kloof. Our walk ends on a mountain farm near Montagu with blooming apricot, peach and pear orchards.
