BOS Earthwave Beach Festival

The sixth edition of the BOS Earthwave Beach Festival, where Cape Town surfers challenge the Guinness World Record for the ‘most surfers riding the same wave’, will be run at Surfers Corner on Muizenberg Beach on the weekend 19 & 20 October 2013

This popular festival harnesses the immense interest generated by attempts to break Guinness World Records to showcase the beach lifestyle, highlight the causes of climate change and promote sustainable lifestyle choices.

The program of events over the two days includes surfing, longboard surfing, tandem surfing, stand up paddleboarding, surfskis, a beach run, Bos Dig for Gold and plenty of fun-filled beach activities offering valuable prizes for young and old.

The activities take place alongside exhibits and demonstrations on environmentally friendly products and services with talks by experts on climate change and environmental issues. The festival concludes with what has become the after-party of the year at a popular local venue.

The Guinness World Record attempt is the highlight of the BOS Earthwave Beach Festival and has grown into arguably one of the world’s biggest annual mass participation surfing events with between 350 and 500 participants of all ages and abilities paddling out to break the record. The current record is 110 surfers riding the same which was set at Earthwave at Muizenberg in 2009.

The comprehensive local, national and international media coverage accorded to Earthwave provides extensive leverageing opportunities for any company, brand or organisation to showcase their products and services and promote their environmental credentials to a receptive audience.

Exhibits, demonstrations and talks on environmental issues are housed in a marquee tent on the beach and the organisers invite suggestions for other Guinness World Records that could be set at the festival.
